"Abreast of the times"

"Abreast of the times"! These words were used by our wise Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, in her instructions concerning the periodicals which are the organs of The Mother Church. In the Church Manual she says (Art. VIII, Sect. 14), "It shall be the duty of the Directors to see that these periodicals are ably edited and kept abreast of the times."

That our periodicals are "ably edited" and "with signs following" is recognized with gratitude. The healing of disease, sorrow, and want is a frequent result of the careful study of the messages contained in them. That they are "kept abreast of the times" is also recognized, with almost startling conviction, by those who have been subscribers and readers of them for many years, and who pause to consider the progress made. The rapid succession of events in the changing history of the world during the past few years has demanded active progress in the work on the periodicals. This work has been faithfully done, and its successful accomplishment is blessing the world.

Now these periodicals have been maintained during many years because the faithful workers who have them in charge have kept in view the high purpose of our Leader in founding them, and the care she took to protect them, in order that a spiritually true standard might prevail, and that helpful articles with healing messages might be presented to the world with precise regularity.
