Majesty

Christian Science transforms human character, human lives, aims, circumstances. It drops a curtain on the old Adam and lifts it on the new man—and forbids us to look through the deceiving veil of material sense. It restores health to the sick and joy to mourners. It awakens in former weaklings new ambition and achievement, a new majesty born of Spirit.

This, in part, was Job's experience when, having been bereaved of his possessions, his health, his self-respect, he wakened to hear the divine command, "Gird up thy loins now like a man : I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me." Was he to attempt this on the old basis of material values and the homage of men?" No; he could only do so from the basis of spiritual riches and homage to God. Job came forth into his heritage of harmony when he recognized that his tribulation was the result of his trust in materiality and further recognized that he must regard and acknowledge the majesty of God, Spirit, as being at all times the unfailing source of every good and perfect gift.

Every needful thing is spiritually available, and on this same foundation of Spirit Christian Science ministers to those from whom health, means of livelihood, happiness, and even moral sense seem to have fallen away. In human history there have always been evidences of a divine power available to the humble-hearted and spiritually responsive. In the face of acute human needs, Jesus wielded this power; and Peter said of his Master, "We ... were eyewitnesses of his majesty."
