It is with a deep sense of gratitude for the blessings and healings which I have experienced that I offer this testimony, earnestly hoping that others will likewise be benefited.

Christian Science was presented to me while visiting in the home of a loyal Christian Scientist a few months after graduating from a recognized training school for nurses. I read the testimonies of healing in the Christian Science Sentinel, many of these healings being from those pronounced incurable by the medical fraternity. After I had had a very simple but nevertheless convincing explanation as to why Christian Scientists do not believe in the use of material remedies for relief from physical suffering, I became convinced that Christian Science had come in answer to my prayer that God would show me some better way by which the sick might be healed. The use of material remedies for myself was almost immediately discontinued, and within a comparatively short time the practice of materia medica nursing was given up, too. A copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" was purchased and the study of it was begun. Shortly after I attended my first lecture on Christian Science an opportunity came to prove the truth of that which I had been reading. The lecturer had quoted from page 393 of our textbook: "Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man." Relying absolutely on this "power divinely bestowed on man" I was completely and permanently healed of tonsillitis in less than twenty-four hours. Previously the tonsils had been removed, but a physician had said that they had they had grown again and had become infected. A subsequent examination confirmed the perfect condition of the throat.

Since then innumerable blessings and healings have been experienced, some through my own efforts and very many times with the loving help of practitioners and friends. For each one I am deeply grateful. Two experiences seem outstanding because of the many valuable lessons learned. While serving in work that necessitated my being before the public, I was overcome by a complete nervous breakdown. Repeated efforts were made to resume my rightful place, but each attempt failed. However, at the end of a month the call came, as it did to the children of Israel at the Red Sea, to "go forward," and a consecrated effort was made to be obedient. Until within three minutes of the time necessary to take up my duties it seemed not only improbable but also impossible that I should be able to do so. But like the children of Israel when they marched toward the Red Sea, I had the happy privilege of seeing all that had seemed to oppose, obstruct, and resist righteous activity disappear. The strength and ability to be in my rightful place were realized and the healing was complete right then and there. I owe a deep debt of gratitude to the loving practitioner and friends who so loyally supported me at that time.
