In January, 1931, I was taken with what seemed to be a severe attack of rheumatism. I suffered with this for months, although working constantly for myself in Christian Science. Early in the year I was asked to serve as chariman of a committee in the local church to which I belong. At first this seemed impossible because of my suffering and my difficulty in gettin around, but the thought came to me that if I really wanted to serve nothing could interfere or stop me, so I took up the duties and attended to them faithfully.

A number of months passed with the difficulty still manifesting itself in a severe manner, especially when I went up and down stairs. A medical specialist diagnosed the ailment as arthritis, stating that it was incurable, and wished to prescribe medicine for me in an effort to arrest the progress of the trouble, but I told him that I was relying on Christian Science, and I refused the medicines. I immediately went to a practitioner and told him of the doctor's diagnosis and asked for help in Christian Science. I also explained that I wished to keep on with my church work, whereupon he advised me by all means to be about my Father's business. That night I slept well, and from that time began to improve. Two months later I was entirely free. I am certain that my church work was of the greatest help in securing my healing, as I was serving in loving gratitude for the many blessings and healings I had received in Christian Science.
