A Daily Rate

In the Scriptures there are to be found references to a daily rate or a daily supply of all needed things. A striking example of God's daily provision for His children is found in the experiences of the Israelites during their journey through the wilderness. They were fed by manna, a fresh portion of which appeared each morning, in sufficient quantity to meet the day's need. At the command of Moses water gushed from the rock. We read that the Israelites' shoes and clothing waxed not old, and that their other needs were fully supplied during their forty years' experience. This indicates that there exists a divine law which meets the needs of all who rely upon it. In other words, supply is allied to demand, and equal to it. Our Leader touches upon this truth when she states (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 45) that "supply invariably meets demand."

Jesus of Nazareth understood this law of supply and proved it in his daily life. He knew financial discord or lack to be a phase of error which must be overcome. He said, "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." While he was not encumbered with material things, through his understanding and application of God's law his own need for shelter, clothing, and food were met, as were also the pressing needs of the multitude which thronged about him to listen to his teaching.

This tender admonition of the great Teacher comes down to us through the centuries, and is as practical today as when he said so long ago, "Take no thought, saying, What shall we ear? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?" By taking no thought, Jesus may have meant, Be not anxious or worried. He also gave the comforting assurance, "Your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things." These words of the Way-shower imply the existence of the ever operative law of supply above referred to; and it must be conceded that God, being infinite good and knowing the needs of His children, supplies them out of His infinite abundance. On page 507 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy writes, "Spirit duly feeds and clothes every object, as it appears in the line of spiritual creation, thus tenderly expressing the fatherhood and motherhood of God."
