When Christian Science was presented to me I did not...
When Christian Science was presented to me I did not at once accept its teachings. I had first to experience the healing power which was claimed for it in order to be convinced of that power. Healings followed which proved to me conclusively that Christian Science is true.
One of the first of these healings was of ptomaine poisoning. While at work I was stricken with severe pains which made it necessary for me to return to my home. My wife was a Christian Scientist, but she willingly complied with my request that a physician be called. The physician arrived, but at that instant all sense of pain left me, and I was entirely free. After an examination the physician informed me that, while the immediate danger was past, I should have a difficult night and that I should be incapacitated for several days. In spite of this declaration, I slept well that night and was able to return to my work the next morning, free from any manifestation of illness. Afterwards I learned that during my illness my wife had worked to keep her own thought free from any false concept of me, and had seen me as the perfect reflection of perfect God; and it was through this clear perception that I was healed.
Later came the problem of unemployment. After traveling many miles in an unsuccessful search for a position, I was ready to listen to the advice to study in the textbook the references to the word "employment" and its synonyms. Some time was spent in earnest study, during which I was greatly uplifted. Then I started out again to make inquiries at some business places as to whether an additional worker was needed. At the first office visited I received encouragement, and within two days the call came for me to report for work.
