[Original testimony in German]

Through a lecture which I attended years ago with a friend, I heard of Christian Science for the first time. I did not then understand much about it; but this one thing impressed me, that through Christian Science one can heal sickness without a physician or medicine. Since I was not ill at that time I felt that I did not need Science; I did not know that it could be used for everyday problems. My mother, however, was suffering from sundry ailments at that time, so I told her about this Science and said that perhaps she might like to try it and attend the meetings. She did so; and through regular attendance at testimony meetings and services, and the reading of copies of Der Herold der Christlichen Wissenschaft, she was completely healed of chronic kidney trouble and neuralgia in just a few weeks. At the time of a Thanksgiving service I went to church with her for the first time, and I was so impressed by everything which I heard that I then began to attend the meetings and services regularly; and today I am sincerely grateful that I was led to Christian Science. Among other things, I have experienced healings of several hard attacks of catarrh of the lungs, pleurisy, and severe colds.
In deep gratitude I should like to tell of a healing which I experienced through God's great goodness and the loving work of a practitioner. In January, 1927, I became ill with severe catarrh of the lungs and a light attack of asthma. Since I have a business position, a physician was called in order to follow the regular procedure. On the second day of his examination he stated that the left lung was affected. In spite of this statement by the physician I felt no fear, for in Science we learn that as God's children we express only health, perfection, and harmony. Through work in Christian Science this error was thoroughly refuted; for on the third day the examination office reported that the lungs were somewhat weak, to be sure, but were otherwise quite healthy. The doctor continued to feel puzzled, for he had certainly found that there was something wrong with the lungs. Four weeks later, in spite of the physician's protest that he would take no responsibility if anything happened, I was able to take up my work again.
Perhaps I was not watchful enough, for after enjoying the best of health for two years, at the Christmas season of 1929, I had a severe relapse as the result of a slight cold. On Christmas Day I was unable to leave my bed. I was incapable of grasping a single clear thought, and although work was lovingly done in Science at once, conditions grew worse and the error did not yield. I could neither sit up in bed nor lie down; and I could not be out of bed, for I was too weak for that. But about eleven-thirty in the evening of the next day I suddenly became quite free from all discomfort and was able to sleep the entire night. I was able to be out of bed the next day and visit the practitioner the third day. I am very grateful for this complete healing.
