Your issue of July 1 contains a synopsis of a sermon on "The Ministry of Healing." The clergyman's reference to Christian Science, however, needs correction.
Christ Jesus healed the sick by spiritual means alone. He did not employ any material means in healing, and his disciples were able to heal the sick and raise the dead by the same spiritual method. Christian Science is revealing in the twentieth century that the method of Christ Jesus is as practical today as it was two thousand years ago. Mrs. Eddy writes on page 411 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," "The procuring cause and foundation of all sickness is fear, ignorance, or sin." From this it is seen that the cause of disease is a wrong mental condition, which cannot be remedied through material means. We are told in the Scriptures that "perfect love casteth out fear," and, as God is Love, a knowledge of God will destroy fear. Christ Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." This knowing of the truth is spiritual understanding, which removes ignorance. A knowledge of the infinitude, omnipotence, omniscience, and omnipresence of God destroys sin. A Christian Science practitioner who is daily gaining more of the Mind of Christ is able, through his spiritual understanding, to destroy these erroneous conditions, and thereby heal his patients mentally, morally, and physically.
