In gratitude for the many blessings received through the...
In gratitude for the many blessings received through the application of Christian Science I desire to give my testimony.
Twenty-two years ago, after several minor operations, I was told by our physician that I could not live more than a few weeks if I did not have a major operation, as I had the so-called incurable disease named cancer. I said I would not have the operation, nor did I; then for over a year I tried all other medical aid, but to no avail. I suffered from severe hemorrhages which kept me in bed for days at a time. I was said to be anæmic; I endured severe sick headaches which would last for several days, was a nervous wreck, and had rheumatism in my arm. I was also passing through what is called a critical stage of life, consequently I was filled with much fear. I had two small children, so I was very anxious to live.
"Man's extremity is God's opportunity." That was my position. Through my son's companion, whose family were Christian Scientists, I was led, after seeing many healings, to investigate Christian Science as a last resort. I prayed very earnestly as I had been taught, for I was a stanch member of an orthodox church; but I was never satisfied, when teaching Sunday school, that I was giving my class the right interpretation or understanding of God. I decided to try Christian Science and went to a practitioner, who lovingly told me that God is Love. She also told me that God does not send sickness; and I went home very happy, feeling that at last I had found something to help me both physically and spiritually. I continued to go to the practitioner, and in about three or four months the cancer completely disappeared and I never had another hemorrhage. The rest of my healing was somewhat slow, but I am grateful for it; it made me, as Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 495), "cling steadfastly to God and His idea." I read and studied earnestly and tried very hard to put into practice what I knew.
