Letting God's Will Govern
Christian Science teaches that absolute unity exists between the creator and His creation, and that therefore there never can be any separation between God and man. And the basis of this teaching is the fact that God is Mind and man Mind's idea. In her writings Mrs. Eddy is very clear in her elucidation of these truths, obviously because of their great importance to mankind. Nothing can possibly surpass in value an accurate understanding of the relationship—the indestructible relationship—existing between God the creator and man His creation.
Now, as the idea of God, man must be under the government of God. This is the same as saying that man is under the will of God. But what more particularly does this signify? It means that, since God is infinite Love, infinite Life, infinite Truth, infinite good, the will of God is that man shall manifest love, life, truth, and good continually. The real man, therefore, is perpetually harmonious; perpetually joyous, happy, and holy; perpetually conscious of the perfection of real being. The will of God, constantly acting through spiritual law, thus makes certain man's immortality.
Material sense, however, does not regard man as the idea of God, as the image or reflection of God; hence the belief that man is separated from Him and therefore not continually subject to His perfect will. The result is that men conceive of themselves as not being under divine government, but as possessing a will of their own, a will which they believe they must necessarily exercise. The consequence is frequent discord and suffering. It is undeniable that every inharmonious condition apparently experienced by mankind has its inception in the fallacy that man is separate from God and, consequently, not governed by His will—His perfect will.
