Continuity of Good

As students of Christian Science we rejoice in the abundant good which is unfolded in our experience in proportion as we put into practice the teachings of this new-old religion. There are times, however, when suggestions of doubt arise; when, perhaps, the false belief is allowed to enter that we have lost the inspiration, the good gained while we were studying the Lesson-Sermon.

The belief that we are at one with God during moments of prayer, meditation, or study, but that at other times, when engaged in the daily routine of business and home life, we can become even temporarily separated from Him, is a form of aggressive mental suggestion that cannot be too assiduously guarded against. It admits in effect that the truth as revealed in Christian Science, our prized possession, can be taken from us when it is most needed. Under the heading "Alertness to Duty" in the Church Manual (Art. VIII, Sect. 6) Mrs. Eddy warns against this evil influence in these words: "It shall be the duty of every member of this Church to defend himself daily against aggressive mental suggestion, and not be made to forget nor to neglect his duty to God, to his Leader, and to mankind."

Thousands in all parts of the world are today turning to Christian Science, not only on account of its healing power in the case of physical ills, but because of its practical usableness in solving the problems, big and little, that go to make up daily experience in our contact with the world. It is our right, therefore, and our privilege to know and prove the constant practicability and availability of Christian Science by realizing that good is not spasmodic, but continuous, without beginning or ending.
