We are taught in Christian Science how to do our mental...
We are taught in Christian Science how to do our mental work about all our problems, and the harmonious conclusion resulting we call "demonstration"; and these demonstrations are veritable stepping-stones out of the swamp of false belief.
I have been a student of Christian Science for so many years that it no longer seems "a thing incredible ... that God should raise the dead." Metaphysical healing has become an accepted fact rather than something supernatural or phenomenal. I have been healed through listening to the reading of the Lesson-Sermon at a Sunday service; through a friend reading the textbook to me; through my own prayers as taught in Christian Science; and through both present and absent treatments by faithful practitioners.
The specific healings to which I would bear testimony at this time came through the loving ministrations of a practitioner. The first was an instantaneous healing in one present treatment of a severe cold in the head, with all the outward manifestations so distressing to mortal sense. The second was of an attack of rheumatism in the knees and legs. My work is in New York city, where I am constantly on the move, up and down stairs, in and out of subways and elevated trains. Although suffering from this pain for over two weeks, I had been doing my mental work and managing to keep on my feet, but seemed unable to heal the condition; the pain was intense, and it was all I could do to keep going. I called a practitioner on long distance telephone and in a few hours I experienced decided relief, and the next day I was entirely well. That was over three years ago and I have not had any return of the trouble; and I am still doing the arduous walking. The third healing was of influenza. I was confined to my bed for a week. The healing work was done absently, with daily communications by long distance telephone, as in the previous case, and I was healed without a thought of the need of medicines of any sort.
