Close to Thee, O God

O, May I walk so close to Thee, from hour to hour,
That ever on my upward way,
When doubts or fears my path assail,
When evil claims my footsteps fail,
I then may have the grace to say:
I walk with God, and know there is no other power!

O, may I ever walk so close, O Truth, to Thee,
That I may know Thy truth each day
So clearly that when sin or pain,
Or matter's glamour tries to gain
Some place or power, I then can say,
With calmness, that in Truth but good alone can be!

O, may I daily walk so close, O Love, to Thee,
That through my life Thy love may glow
So truly that if any deed
Of evil, slander, hate, or greed
May claim to be, I then may know
Love made and knows but good, hence, only good I see!
