I should like to express heartfelt gratitude for many blessings received through Christian Science. I was attracted to it through a church advertisement in the daily newspaper. I attended the church services for a while, then bought a textbook. While I was reading about tobacco on page 404 in Science and Health, the desire for it instantly left me, after I had used it in every form for at least twenty-five years. Without conscious effort on my part the desire for liquor also disappeared.

In our home we have experienced many healings. I was healed of a poisoned finger without losing one hour from work. The children have been relieved from many so-called contagious diseases, mostly with the aid of a practitioner. One healing stands out especially. Our boy, when seven years old, broke his leg just above the ankle in the school playgrounds. The doctor rendered first aid and put on splints. He wanted to remove him to a hospital, but at our request he was taken home. A Christian Science practitioner was immediately called. The next day the boy himself removed the splints. After ten days the doctor and school nurse came and examined the leg, and through the Children's Aid Society started prosecution for criminal neglect. They said the boy would be lame and his leg crooked. The magistrate during the hearing told a story of a friend of his who was healed of total blindness through Christian Science. So the court case was turned into a testimony meeting. The case was adjourned for one week. During the week, at the request of the Christian Science Committee on Publication, an X-ray photograph was taken. This was sent to the medical officer before being delivered to me, and the same afternoon the case was dropped, as the leg was shown to be normal. I may add that a letter of apology was sent to me by the prosecutor.

Words can hardly express the gratitude of my wife and myself during this period for the faithful work of the practitioner; it drew us both together in loving appreciation of Christian Science. Truly, as our Leader says, "trials are proofs of God's care" (Science and Health, p. 66). In two weeks the boy was out of bed and about. We did not allow him to go back to school until the fifth week, after a slight limp had entirely disappeared.
