Preparation

THE process of preparation is carried on by every wise individual, no matter what his activity may be, for such a one knows from experience that it means economy of effort with the most satisfactory reward. For instance, the gardener does not cast seed hastily and carelessly over stony, arid ground. Instead, he examines the soil, clears it of obstructions, fertilizes it, and after choosing good seed sows it where it will bear a prolific crop. Likewise, the dressmaker does not cut into a piece of goods until she has chosen and carefully considered an appropriate pattern for a garment.

Thus one might go on indefinitely, showing the importance of an efficient making ready for the consummation of a desired aim. If it is necessary to take these preliminary precautions for material results, how much more important it is that we should prepare our mental soil for the sowing of the seeds of Truth, and give prayerful, conscientious thought to the pattern of our lives, that each one of us may be clothed with "the garment of praise."

What was Jesus' preparation for the divine healing he practiced? As a youth he studied the law and the prophets. In his manhood he evidenced his familiarity with the Scriptures and their spiritual intent, using his knowledge of God to demonstrate the greatest good to mankind and finally to secure for himself the victory over death.
