A correspondent says, "Death is the refrain of all of the epistles." Yet Paul, the principal writer of the epistles, says, "The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death."

If this correspondent's contention for the actuality of death could be carried to an ultimate conclusion it would mean the complete obliteration of eternal life. If his logic were true, men would cease to exist with the cessation of breathing. Christ Jesus taught nothing like this. On the contrary, he gave the sweetest assurance of man's continuous being that ever fell upon human ears, when he said to Martha: "He that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live : and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die." The seeming death of mankind is not an actuality, and in the light of the Master's teachings no one should announce God to be the author of death — God who is infinite Life. Man is spiritual, hence eternal. What healing balm would there possibly be to minister to the broken heart, to comfort the widow and the fatherless, if death were real?

Christian Science is based on the Scriptures and stands squarely on the fact of spiritual existence as taught by Christ Jesus.
