The Bible Lessons in Sunday School

The Manual of The Mother Church (Art. XX, Sect. 3) states that "the next lessons consist of such questions and answers as are adapted to a juvenile class, and may be found in the Christian Science Quarterly Lessons, read in Church services." Therefore the Lesson-Sermons are to be used for teaching pupils who are ready to comprehend them.

As teaching the older classes in Sunday school is so intimately related to the Christian Science Quarterly Bible Lessons, it is desirable that the teacher should have a clear grasp of each lesson, for no one can teach others what he himself does not understand. The subject matter in the Quarterly provides an ample field for study; its scope is infinite.

Are all our Sunday school teachers fully aware of the need of mature, prepared thought and prayerful study applied to the preparation of the Lesson-Sermons? Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, established a committee, the duty of which was to select the quotations for the lessons; and this committee, composed of well-qualified Christian Scientists, continues its work of building up a series of logical, well-balanced expositions of the subjects chosen by our Leader.
