Signs of the Times

[Dr. Alfred Inwood, as quoted in the Star-News, Pasadena, California]

Freedom is the passionate longing and determination of our race. Men have counted no cost too great to attain to it. It is the one watchword of to-day, the secret of the passionate striving going on in the broad spaces of the world.

But the highest form of freedom is spiritual. Not until one is free in spirit, until he has found spiritual freedom, is he really free. That was what Jesus meant when he said, "If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed." Men to-day are spelling freedom "license," but their freedom is bondage. They are slaves, not freemen. If the spirit is free, there is no real slavery.
