On page 1 of "Rudimental Divine Science" our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, defines Christian Science "as the law of God, the law of good, interpreting and demonstrating the divine Principle and rule of universal harmony." This law of good operating in our home brought about a very beautiful healing for my mother. She had been ill for about two weeks when I was called home from a distant city to be near her. I was very much shocked and frightened when I saw her physical condition. She was quite emaciated, having been unable to take any nourishment for two weeks. She had been studying Christian Science for about four years and was having help from a practitioner.
After ten more days, very little if any improvement was noticeable. My father, who was not interested in Christian Science, then insisted that her case be diagnosed. Accordingly, two of the best physicians were summoned. One pronounced the illness severe stomach trouble and the other said it was cancer of the stomach. They advised that she be taken to a hospital and operated upon immediately. My mother refused to have medical help, so the work was continued in Christian Science. Let me say here that during the many days and nights which followed no discordant condition was manifested which we were not given strength and courage to meet. I was always able to turn to our textbooks and find just the help needed.
At the end of two months the healing came. It was remarkable how quickly my mother's strength returned. She was able in a very short time to make an extended railway journey, and has never had the slightest return of this trouble. Since then she has finished a term of reading in one of our branch churches and has been able to carry on God's work in many ways. This healing took place about twelve years ago, and she is in perfect health to-day.
