Extracts from Reports of Christian Science Committees on Publication for the Year Ended September 30, 1929

The past year has been one of unity, growth, and progress in the Christian Science churches in Northern California. In spite of a few remaining opponents of Christian Science and its Discoverer, at no time has Mrs. Eddy's place as the unquestioned Discoverer, Founder, and Leader of Christian Science been more fully acknowledged than to-day. Dr. Chauncy J. Hawkins, a prominent Congregational minister of San Francisco, discussing Mrs. Eddy's place in history, in a recent sermon said: "She gave thousands of people their hold on life. She made thousands of people happy. She gave to them a sense of God. . . ."

The attitude of the press in Northern California towards Christian Science has been marked by fairness, cordiality, and good will. The metropolitan press has followed its fixed policy of deleting any critical or doubtful remarks about Christian Science from sermons, addresses, or articles which it prints. Occasinally the minor press has contained references to Christian Science which have needed clarification or correction. In all of these instances editors afforded this office every cooperation and facility to have letters of correction printed. No unkindly mention of Christian Science has appeared in the medical press. Very little requiring correction has appeared in the religious press.

An increasing number of editors are printing short reports of the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly. They give the subject of the Lesson-Sermon and very brief citations from the Bible and from Science and Health.
