Reporter

As reported in your issue of Saturday last, a bishop said: "Great masses of the population, to use the rough, modern phrase, had no use for religion. They turned to modern phases of the same idea, clinging to the skirts of the Christian faith, things like Christian Science and such like things, and to modern phases of Christian thought, and they neglected the religion of our Lord Jesus Christ altogether."

Those remarks would, if uncorrected, give your readers a wrong impression of the teaching of Christian Science; and I therefore ask space in your columns for the following brief statement.

The religion of our Master, Jesus the Christ, was a religion of healing, as was unmistakably shown by his reply to the disciples of John the Baptist when they came to him with the question, "Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?" "Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: the blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them."
