A few years ago a noted specialist delivered a lecture in Jacksonville on the subject of cancer. In the course of his lecture the doctor stated that about ninety thousand die annually of that dread disease in the United States alone. It is well known that almost every one of the entire ninety thousand victims had turned to the medical profession for aid, and had been subjected to the remedial agents which the doctors decreed best for the malady, including thermocautery, X-ray, radium treatment, surgical operations, etcetera. However, these various treatments were unsuccessful and the sufferers died under the care of their physicians. This has gone on for years. Yet, in the face of the dismal failure of the medical profession to offer anything resembling a positive cure for cancer, one of your local physicians saw fit recently to criticize a former fellow citizen for resorting to Christian Science for treatment, and to condemn Christian Science for a single failure.
To the fair-minded reader the doctor's condemnation is nothing short of preposterous. The vital statistics of his own city show that numerous persons have died in Orlando of cancer under the very best medical attention obtainable. Statistics also show that with all of the "improved" methods employed by the medical profession to cure cancer, the present death rate is far in excess of what it was in the United States a half century ago. In fact, according to statistics, it is admitted by the doctors themselves that they lose over seventy-eight per cent of developed cases.
No one should be criticized or condemned for seeking physical healing outside of medical channels. Human life and happiness are dear to all of us, and Christian Science is giving to humanity a larger, fuller sense of both than has any other agency since the time of Christ Jesus and his apostles. To-day there is a host of healthy, happy people who have been healed of cancer and other so-called incurable diseases, and whose lives have been made happier through the Christ-like ministrations of Christian Science. Numerous physicians and surgeons throughout this and foreign lands have witnessed and are acknowledging the healing power of Christian Science.
