About twenty years ago I first heard of Christian Science
About twenty years ago I first heard of Christian Science. At that time I was quite well physically and, therefore, did not listen with the thought of healing at all; but I was very much interested and full of questions, which were always answered to my full satisfaction. Soon, a difficulty of long standing came upon me—that of a bad stomach. The Bible had been read from childhood, but never had meant much to me. By this time the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, had been read also, but only spasmodically, with no real searching for the kingdom of God, good.
Three of the very best physicians of the city of Cleveland had done all they could to help me, but all their efforts had failed. X-ray pictures showed what they called gastric ulcers of the worst type. The doctors now told my family to take me to the country and give me the best time possible, for I would be with them but five or six weeks longer. Then, and not until then, the Bible and our textbook were studied diligently, not in search of healing, but in search of God and His kingdom. Suddenly I read these words from Matthew: "For your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." "The scientific statement of being," as found on page 468 of our textbook, was also studied.
Then darkness changed to light, and before the five or six weeks had gone by, I was a well and healthy man. I at once began eating good, wholesome food and took on weight. Through the study of Christian Science as set forth by our revered Leader, I was completely healed of the stomach trouble. From that day to this there has never been a single return of it. Since then all physical ailments have been met through Christian Science, and there have been many. On page 494 of our textbook we read, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." This surely has been proved to me and mine. Physical healings have been wonderful, but the spiritual uplift which has come to us is indescribable. I am very grateful.—Charles Rohn, Lakewood, Ohio.
