About twenty-one years ago I visited friends in California...

About twenty-one years ago I visited friends in California who were Christian Scientists; and as I was invited to read the literature whenever I wished, I became interested, but not enough so to devote much time to the study. But on my way home I found a Sentinel on one of the car seats, so I picked it up with the intention of reading it from cover to cover and learning from it as much as I could. After I had finished reading it I sat for a few moments thinking it over, and while doing so these words came to me: "Choose you this day whom ye will serve." After I arrived home, my first move was to get a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy and study the subject. After continuing for some time I gained understanding enough to desire to put the little I had learned into practice.

The first difficulty that presented itself was biliousness, which had troubled me from boyhood. I at once threw away the medicine and went to work. This took place in the forenoon, and by night all the symptoms had vanished. That demonstration gave me courage to press on. The biliousness has never returned. I have been benefited in many ways since taking up Christian Science, and will mention two or three of them: the healing of the habit of profanity as well as of the tobacco habit of over sixty years' continuous duration; the healing of rupture, and of influenza in its worst form, that of influenza being instantaneous.

I am grateful to God and to those who have helped me along, and can say that the blessings and enjoyments which I am receiving from day to day are many.
