The first time I saw the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was in a hotel. I read only a few lines, but it made me feel I wanted to get that book. However, I had heard so much said against Christian Science that I was not certain it would be right to read it. I had heard a lecture against Mrs. Eddy and thought I was not going to have anything to do with any of her teachings, so I burned some Sentinels that had been given me at a Christian Science lecture. But after I had read part of Science and Health, I began to understand Christian Science and Mrs. Eddy's connection with it. For five or six years I attended the Christian Science church part of the time, and occasionally a lecture.

I was not seeking physical healing, as I thought nothing could make me well. I had tried so many different remedies. But it seemed to me there was something about God in Christian Science that I did not have, and I wanted to know what it was. Then a friend suggested that I borrow Science and Health from the public library, which I did. Before beginning to read it I prayed to God with great earnestness to be shown what was right. As I had trouble with my eyes, I had before then not been able to read more than a few minutes at a time, but I read this book all the evening and my eyes did not hurt me. A short time later I laid aside glasses which had been worn for years. Later, an attack of bronchial pneumonia was overcome with help from a practitioner, and I did not miss a day from my work. I was protected from injury in a bad fall from the top of a high stepladder. A sudden sense of being unable to use my left arm was met by realizing the truth about man, and in an hour I was able to work with only a little difficulty; and after the third treatment by the practitioner there was no trace of the trouble left, and there has been no return of it. Other healings I have had were from colds, indigestion, sick headache, catarrh, and piles, some of them with the help of a practitioner and some through my own realization of the truth. After more than six years there has been no return of any of these ailments.

I have gained much more than physical healing through the study of Christian Science. I have learned to understand God as I wanted to do when I first began to read the textbook. I have learned to understand the life of Jesus the Christ better, and the Bible has become clearer and dearer to me.
