I am indeed most grateful for the many blessings and happy experiences I have had since I became interested in Christian Science. I had heard of it many times, and even read some of the literature, having a relative who has been a Christian Science practitioner for many years. It was not, however, until the fall of 1917 that I began the study of it and purchased a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. At that time I was a deacon in an orthodox church, but was not contented. I read a little each day, and soon began to see the truth and to reap the benefits in the solving of various business problems.
A real demonstration was made in July, 1919, when I left Baltimore, where I had always lived, for Tulsa, Oklahoma. I knew no one there except a very distant relative, who lived twenty-six miles away, and whom I had seen but twice in thirty-eight years. While on my way out West, I read Science and Health quite frequently, and upon my arrival bought an evening paper to read the advertisements for room and board, and secured suitable quarters. I was grateful for this. The next morning I visited the office of a large oil company and had a talk with the assistant auditor, who finally told me to come back at four o'clock that afternoon and he would give me his answer. I returned to my room and read, realizing the allness of God. When I returned at the appointed hour, I was promptly told to report for work the next morning at a substantial increase in salary. I remained four years with this firm, having finally been made a "group head." Shortly after this demonstration, I became a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Tulsa.
On my return to Baltimore, I joined one of the Christian Science churches there, and words can only partially express my gratitude for the many healings and demonstrations I have had since that time. One day, during the early part of February, 1926, I experienced a severe attack of influenza.
