[Written for the Sentinel]

Arise and Shine

Arise and shine! Take up thy load
And meekly press along,
With holy courage in thy heart,
And on thy lips a song.

Thou wilt not fear the lurking foe,
Or terror of the night;
Thy feet shall keep the narrow way;
The Christ will give thee light.

Arise and shine, thy light has come,
Wayfaring one and worn!
Thy long and lonely night is o'er,
And brightly beams the morn.

Love's rod and staff will comfort thee,
Along thy pilgrim way;
And brighter still shall grow the path,
"Unto the perfect day."
