For many years I was a hopeless invalid
For many years I was a hopeless invalid. I think I was in bondage to most of the false beliefs that "flesh is heir to." I was brought up in an orthodox church and taught to read and to love the Bible, although I did not understand it. After marriage three little girls were born to us. I became a great sufferer, and the doctors said they could give me very little relief. I read the Bible a great deal, and prayed to God to let me live to see my little girls old enough to care for themselves.
For several years I went on trying different remedies and different doctors, until at last I manifested a nervous condition that seemed to be in my head. A great fear took hold of me that I would have to be confined in an insane asylum, and I prayed to God to let me die. At this time Christian
Science was presented to me by my husband's sister. She gave me a Christian Science Sentinel and advised me to have a practitioner treat me, saying Christian Science would heal me. I read the Sentinel, but did not see a practitioner. Soon afterwards a man living near me, knowing of my condition, sent me the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I opened it, but the words seemed so foreign to me that I closed it and sent it home. In a very short time the book was again placed in my hands, but every time I opened it, it seemed to cause me great distress. Not understanding the reason of this commotion, I was much alarmed and told the owner that she would have to take the book home. But I could not forget what I had read, and kept praying the Father to show me the way. After a series of distressing experiences, it was revealed to me that Christ, Truth, as revealed by Christian Science, is the way of which Christ Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life," and I lost no time in purchasing the textbook. I read a great deal, and a great sense of peace and joy came to me. Forgetting all sense of time, I read most of the day and night, as I was not able to be up much of the daytime and slept little at night. The first improvement I noticed was that I was able to go to sleep at night without fear; and in a very short time I was healed of my diseases, which were many.
