From my earliest recollection I was troubled with a weak side, which often kept me from playing with other children. A number of physicians examined me, and said that as it was my left side they were fearful of using too strong remedies, as my heart was also weak. However, as time went on, the side became swollen and pained me considerably. Every remedy I could hear of was tried, with but temporary relief. One day a friend said she knew if I would go to her physician, a highly cultured specialist, that I would be healed. I went; and after his examination he said there was but one thing to do, and that was to operate. He advised me to go home, settle all my business affairs, and return for the operation. I then asked whether in the event of an operation he could assure me of permanent relief. He replied that the trouble being so near the heart the operation might prove fatal, but it was all that could be done.
I decided I would not submit to an operation, and another friend asked me why I did not try Christian Science. I replied, asking how that could aid me when the physicians all said they could do nothing for me. But she insisted that I go to a Christian Science practitioner. I did so, and was healed in a very few treatments. It is now over fifteen years since my healing, and I have never had any more trouble with the side. I am deeply grateful for Christian Science and to the practitioner for her loving help; also grateful to our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and for the privilege of membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, and for class instruction.
