I wish to express my deep gratitude for the many blessings...

I wish to express my deep gratitude for the many blessings that have come to me as the result of the study of Christian Science. It is more than eighteen years since I first read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Since that time the sunshine of Truth has spread more and more over my mental horizon; and in the same degree, more and more of peace, joy, and confidence in divine Love as the only power has come into my experience. The ability of Mind to overcome physical discord has been manifested in many ways.

One of the first results of my study was the laying aside of glasses, which I had been wearing for about eighteen months for astigmatism. I had been a regular smoker for over ten years, but that false appetite was utterly destroyed in the early days of study. Attacks of influenza, one of them a very severe one, have been healed completely in a few hours. A persistent series of boils was completely healed in two treatments. Space would not permit me to tell of the many minor forms of discord that have yielded to the triumphant statements of Truth contained in Mrs. Eddy's writings.

I should like to mention particularly an incident which occurred several years ago. At that time, although I had received many blessings from Christian Science and fully recognized that Mrs. Eddy was the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, nevertheless the thought of gratitude to her seemed to be something entirely foreign to me; and although I could readily see the inconsistencey of this, I did not seem able to change it. One day, however, when walking in the country with my wife, I was struck violently in the back by an automobile and thrown to the ground. I jumped to my feet, instantly declaring that I was not hurt, to the manifest amazement of the driver of the car. After a brief delay we resumed our walk, with but little evidence of any difficulty; and even that evidence disappeared in about twenty-four hours. This was a very definite proof—if such were needed—of the efficacy of Mrs. Eddy's advice on page 397 of the textbook, lines 12 to 22. The great importance of the incident to me, however, was that at the very moment of rising there was no thought of hurt or accident, but a definite conviction that I owed my immunity directly to Mrs. Eddy's teaching; and the one thought that flooded my consciousness was deep and joyous gratitude to her. That sense of gratitude has never left me, but continues to grow as experience follows experience.
