"Angelic messengers"

In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," under the marginal heading "Our angelic messengers," Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 299): "My angels are exalted thoughts, appearing at the door of some sepulchre, in which human belief has buried its fondest earthly hopes. With white fingers they point upward to a new and glorified trust, to higher ideals of life and its joys. Angels are God's representatives."These "angelic messengers," bearing impartations of divine wisdom and spiritual understanding, enabled Mrs. Eddy to become the inspired exponent in this age of "the deep things of God."

With hearts overflowing with gratitude, Christian Scientists realize that it is in fulfillment of prophecy that we are blessed to-day with the final revelation of Truth. Daily and hourly, devout students of Christian Science are proving that understanding of God and obedience to His will enable them to gain the victory over every temptation and over every ill, thus fitting them to become spiritual guides, healers, and helpers of their less fortunate brothers.

The term "angels" is frequently used in the Bible, representing messengers of peace and power, and abiding faith in God, coming to prophet and apostle in their hour of need. We read in Genesis that "three men," angelic visitants, appeared to Abraham as he sat in his tent door on the plains of Mamre. Moses, after his forty years' sojourn in the wilderness, where he had faithfully guarded the flocks of his father-in-law, become so exalted in thought as to hear the voice of God speaking to him from the midst of the burning bush. An angel appeared to Elijah as he lay under a juniper tree, and spoke to him in words of assurance, afterwards leaving with the faithful prophet sustaining food and refreshing drink.
