A Christian Scientist does not differ from any other scientific...
De Malanger
A Christian Scientist does not differ from any other scientific person where the correction of wrong beliefs ignorantly voiced about the special science of which he makes a study, is concerned. A physicist who hears it argued that the sun turns around the earth, surely would correct this misconception, not only for the sake of his science but for the sake of humanity. For this purpose the Committees on Publication of The Mother Church in Boston are authorized, under the Church Manual, to act in the name of the Christian Science movement to correct wrong statements about the teachings of Christian Science, made either through ignorance or unkindness, and in so doing to present the truth about Christian Science. These Committees on Publication are found throughout the world; and it is in this capacity I ask you to place in your paper a correction of an article appearing in the Koerier recently, entitled "Neutrality that goes too far."
Jesus said, "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." Christian Scientists have taken up arms, and are following Jesus' command with "signs following." More than nine thousand qualified practitioners are successfully consecrating their lives to the salvation of humanity, and thousands of authenticated testimonies have been given by people who have been healed solely through earnest study of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, in many cases of diseases which were called incurable. Healings in Christian Science are in no way a secrecy. Every week in more than two thousand branch churches and societies testimonies are given of the healing of all kinds of disease, of hatred, envy, avarice, selfishness, sin, in short, of every ill "that flesh is heir to." and in the Christian Science periodicals, The Christian Science Journal and Christian Science Sentinel, testimonies are also published, the trustworthiness of which has been thoroughly investigated.
Christian Science is not a mere theory; it is the Science of God and man, which, when its rules are rightly understood and conscientiously applied, results in deeds of healing. Jesus said of his doctrine, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." This understanding of the truth, which makes us free and "every whit whole," may be acquired through an earnest and sincere study of the Bible, and of the Christian Science textbook.
