I did not come to Christian Science for healing, as I knew...
I did not come to Christian Science for healing, as I knew nothing of its healing power; but I was seeking a God whom I could understand, a God who did not send pestilence and woe to man. Since studying Christian Science I have found a God one can understand, who does not send evil to us, but sends all good. This has been such a comfort and brings such peace to me!
My first knowledge of Christian Science was gained from a friend who had invited my husband to attend a Wednesday evening testimony meeting. He told this friend that I desired to know something of Christian Science. Then he called me over the telephone and told me I could now learn of Christian Science, as he had found someone who knew about it. This friend came to our home that evening and told me some of the truths of Christian Science. These two terms stand out to me more than anything else that was given me—"omnipresent Mind" and "divine intelligence;" and to-day they are helping me solve problems.
"Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy was borrowed from the Reading Room, and several pamphlets were given me. I began reading this textbook, but having very little time I did not read the book all through before returning it. I was, however, healed of a condition from which I had suffered for several years, a condition which the doctors said was caused from childbirth, and for which I would have to undergo an operation or never be well. I was not conscious of this healing until a year later. It was eight months later before I took up the study of Christian Science in earnest and began to learn how to apply it.
