Occasionally some newspaper writer refers to Christian Science as teaching that "illness and disability are merely matters of imagination," and this impression seems to be quite general in some localities. What Christian Science really teaches on this subject is that "the procuring cause and foundation of all sickness is fear, ignorance, or sin" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 411). These erroneous mental conditions work injury to physical health, but the spiritualization of thought, the Christianization which eliminates evil beliefs from human consciousness, not only prevents disease, but heals it. The Scripture says, "To be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace."
