In a recent issue, a clergyman addressing the Toronto Association of Baptist Churches is reported to have included Christian Science with several other denominations which he claims are disseminating false doctrines, and which constitute a menace to religion and a challenge to the people of God. Although this is a decidedly broad statement, I do not hesitate to give it unqualified denial as far as Christian Science is concerned. Those who by reason of years of study and practice are in a position to pass judgment intelligently, know positively that Christian Science does not deny, but consistently adheres to, the great spiritual truths of the Bible, and that it is founded particularly on he words and works of Christ Jesus. The teachings of the Master should certainly not be referred to as false doctrine by any professing Christian of whatever denomination.

Christian Scientists are quite ready to stand or fall by the Scriptural test, "By their fruits ye shall know them," but are not willing to have erroneous human opinions advanced as the teachings of Christian Science. Equally applicable to-day as when first spoken, and constituting sound advice to those tempted to criticize destructively or to interfere with the religious liberties and beliefs of others, are the words of Christ Jesus, "Judge not, that ye be not judged;" and also, "First cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye." Christians of every denomination, including Christian Scientists and Baptists, have all they can possibly do to present the positive teaching of their own particular church correctly, without attacking other people who are living up to their highest sense of right, with a sincere and honest desire to follow in the footsteps of the Master, Christ Jesus, and to serve God aright. What a grand realization of Christian fellowship and "unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace" will be possible when professing Christians learn to understand the import of the wonderful statement embracing universal Christian brotherhood, made by Jesus: "He that is not against us is on our part"!
