The Upward Way

Why wander in the valley's mist, with eyes upon the sod,
When right ahead a path leads up unto the hill of God?
One little step we take alone, the step of good desire,
Then God puts out His hand to us and leads us upwards, higher.
And if we stumble, trip, or fall, then Love is ever near
To guide our faltering steps again back to the vision clear.
The path shines brighter as we mount; we glimpse the peak above,
The truth of healing shown to us through pure and unselfed love.
We must be sure of every step, preparing for the day
When brothers ask us where to go and if we know the way.
The wise in heart will walk straight on where understanding reigns,
Nor waste their time in looking back on sorrows, aches, and pains;
But lift their hearts and voices up and shout for joy and say:
The blessed sons of God are we, who love the upward way!
We need not wander in the mist with eyes upon the sod,
For now we've found the narrow path which climbs the hill of God!
