Several years have passed since I first heard of Christian Science. Friends lent me the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, but at first it seemed to be full of contradictions. The more I read, the more disturbed I was by its teachings; indeed, I even wished I might burn the book. For weeks I was strongly opposed to the contents of this book, until at last I said: "Now I will read the book again, and this time I will not criticize it; I will just listen to what Mrs. Eddy wishes to impart to us." This I did. I read very slowly, became full of interest, and gradually found passages which solved many problems concerning life; and when I had once understood the great difference. between Spirit and matter I was as one saved, and no longer felt repelled by the book or its contents, but was drawn to it with all the fibers of my being; and the blessings I have received just through the study of the textbook have been many.

Before I knew of Christian Science I had suffered from a gallstone complaint for many years. The last doctor I consulted wished to operate on me, but I preferred to use an oil treatment, which seemed to be successful. About a year later, however, the pain returned. This time I turned to a Christian Science practitioner, and after two treatments I was healed. Since that time nearly three years have passed, and with a grateful and joyous heart I can honestly testify that there has been no return of the gallstone pain.
