In loving gratitude for all the joy and health which Christian Science has brought into my life, I wish to testify to the first healing I experienced in Christian Science.

When I was nineteen years old a physician told me I had tuberculosis, and though he assured my parents and me that it was only incipient, it seemed like a death sentence. Such a dread and fear of that disease had always been held by me that I felt there was no more hope. For years fear and worry seemed to bring forth its fruitage of ill health, unhappiness, heartache, misery, and darkness.

Twice I left home seeking health in a sanitarium in the Adirondack Mountains, where I underwent a rest cure. Upon returning home the first time I looked very healthy, having gained thirty-three pounds in six months, but I also had learned to look to the body for health and to watch diligently for any adverse symptoms. Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 231), "Unless an ill is rightly met and fairly overcome by Truth, the ill is never conquered." Such proved to be the case, and after four more years of doctoring and mental worry and disappointment I was again in the same place as before, only the fear seemed to have grown. Always having been taught to believe in God, I spent many nights praying for help, but my belief in what God is was very limited and mainly false. I believed He sent sickness and sorrow as well as health and happiness.
