I am grateful for the healing message of love which came...
I am grateful for the healing message of love which came to me in the year 1908 through the seemingly accidental reading of our daily newspaper, The Christian Science Monitor. Sometime previous to this, a cousin, who was also a neighbor, had taken up the study of Christian Science and had been healed of a so-called incurable disease. Up to this time I had avoided him and his family because of their interest in Christian Science. Each and every winter, as long as I can remember, I was ill with headaches and liver trouble. I went to our family doctor, but instead of getting better I became worse, until finally I was told that medicine could no longer do me any good. The only advice the doctor could give me was to stop going to school and stay out of doors all I could, for the fresh air would do me more good than anything else. This advice was followed, but the headaches continued just the same. These periods lasted from two to three weeks.
As I was dwelling on these conditions, one day the thought came to me that if Christian Science could heal my cousin, it certainly could heal me. I quietly walked out of my home, fearful of being seen, and called on my cousins, whom I had not visited for eight years. I was received cordially and lovingly by my cousin's wife, who at my request told me something about Christian Science. She also gave me "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy to read, which I did for about two hours. Asking for help, I took the book home and went into an attic, where I spent the evening reading. The next morning I awoke free from headaches, and from that time until now have been free.
I am grateful for what Christian Science has done for me and for those in my home. I am also grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in our local church. I am deeply indebted to Mrs Eddy for her wonderful discovery.
