Let me inform our reverend critic that Christian Scientists are not attracted by sermons preached against their religion. Your correspondent says he will show that Christian Science is a cloak to hide the practice of obtaining money from the sick and despondent by offering them the hope of a cure without medical aid. He further states that this last point has been recently urged in a court in this city. Here our esteemed critic has made a very bad landing: in modern parlance he has "crashed." The decision in the case to which he refers had no reference to the merits or otherwise of Christian Science practice as a system of healing. If it had it would have been contrary to higher opinion, as will presently be shown. This decision referred specifically to the alleged actions of an individual Christian Science practitioner, which is an entirely different matter.

Our critic will be somewhat surprised and disillusioned to learn that the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of both Houses of Parliament, gave statutory recognition to the practice of Christian Science on December 22, 1927, on the enactment of the Nursing Homes Registration Bill, in which provision is made for the exemption of all Christian Science Nursing Homes from medical supervision. During the debates on this bill the Minister of Health, who is not a Christian Scientist, said: "Christian Science is not carried on as medical treatment; it is not a species of quackery which pretends to be something it is not. You may agree or you may not agree with it, but there is no pretense that such treatment that is given by Christian Scientists is offered as an alternative to medical treatment or as a variety of medical treatment."

Finally, may I reiterate that Christian Scientists are striving to follow the commands of their Lord and Master, Christ Jesus. His method of healing the sick and destroying sin is their method; and an honest investigation of the subject would convince anyone of the fact, namely, that Christian Science practice is simply the restoration of the original, primitive Christian method of healing and saving mankind.
