"Universal harmony"

Mrs. Eddy asks in "Rudimental Divine Science" (p. 1), "How would you define Christian Science?" And she says in answer, "As the law of God, the law of good, interpreting and demonstrating the divine Principle and rule of universal harmony."

Before becoming students of Christian Science, most of us thought of universal harmony as a condition to be worked up to, and as something that could be realized only in the future—that it would follow necessary changes in present conditions; and we believed there was much to be destroyed, and also much to be created and adjusted. Now we find that Christian Science, "the law of God," is "interpreting," thus making it possible for us to know and understand that there always was and always will be universal harmony. This Science also reveals the possibility of our "demonstrating" the scientific fact that universal harmony exists here and now.

Ignorance of God and man, His perfect image and likeness, is the only excuse one can have for believing that there is anything less than universal harmony; and Mrs. Eddy makes this plain on page 259 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," where she writes, "The Christlike understanding of Scientific being and divine healing includes a perfect Principle and idea,—perfect God and perfect man,—as the basis of thought and demonstration."
