The Lectures

Wichita Falls, Texas (First Church).

Lecturer: John J. Flinn; introduced by Henry N. Roberts, who said:—

In the fourth chapter of I John, our Master's beloved disciple wrote, "He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love." Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, has written in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 113), "The vital part, the heart and soul of Christian Science, is Love;" and she has admonished all students of Christian Science to follow her "only so far as she follows Christ" (Message to The Mother Church for 1901, p. 34). Is it any wonder, then, that a religion founded so closely upon the teachings of the Bible has grown so rapidly and brought so much health and joy into the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in this age? Christian Science has proved to me by actual demonstration that God is "a very present help in trouble;" that he is at hand and can heal all our diseases. It came to my notice eight years ago through the healing of one in my home of a disease which material means could not cure. The healing came instantaneously, and with it a deep sense of peace and security we had never before known.
