I became interested in Christian Science through the healing of my husband when all material means had failed. He was in bondage at that time to the use of hypodermic injections of morphine (administered by a physician) to relieve him of extreme pain. This condition seemed to be brought about by what the doctors called ulcers of the stomach, gallstones, and appendicitis; and the verdict of one of the best known surgeons in this country was that he would never be well until operated upon. He had even gone so far as to be in the hospital, to be operated upon the following morning; but Truth was taking care of him, and led him to ask the nurse for his clothes, and he came home. For several weeks the struggle continued, until, finally, one day the injections of morphine no longer took effect. It was at this moment that we gave up a great deal of self-will and were glad indeed to turn to Christian Science as a last resort; and he was healed.
Since that time I have been healed of yellow jaundice, hay fever, tonsillitis, and various other errors. Tonsillitis was manifested every winter before I became interested in Christian Science, and at times would be so severe that the physician would think it might develop into diphtheria. He said I would never be free until the tonsils were removed, as they were diseased. I have not had the least symptom of this difficulty since turning to Christian Science. I have been especially grateful for the healing of yellow jaundice, as before this was destroyed there was an uncovering in my consciousness of deep resentment toward a friend who I felt had wronged me. When the practitioner lovingly pointed it out and I was willing to let go of false pride and resentment, God opened the way for me to go to the friend in the spirit of humility, and I found "Love is reflected in love," as our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, says on page 17 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." I also realized the same day that the yellow color had disappeared from my eyes; and inside of two days I was normal in every way.
Since that time I have received the blessing of membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, also class instruction from a loyal teacher. I am very grateful for all of these blessings, also for the privilege of serving as advertising representative for the Monitor. My one desire is to serve God in the way of His appointing, and to be found worthy of the name "Christian Scientist."
