Through reading the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures"...
Through reading the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I was healed of continual headaches and low blood pressure in a very short time. This condition was the after effect of an attack of influenza; and a doctor had failed to heal me or even relieve me, and did not expect me to recover. I was so miserable that I felt I did not care to live if I could not be well.
I am very grateful that Christian Science teaches us that accidents are unreal. At one time a hammock in which I was lying broke, and I fell flat on my back on the ground. For a few seconds I seemed to be in terrible agony, but I struggled to know that God is Life, Truth, and Love, and that accidents are unknown to Him. Instantly the pain left and I was able to sit up, although I felt rather weak and shaken. I studied and declared the truth all day, but did not feel quite myself, although there was no more pain. That evening, in attempting to walk a few blocks, I found that there was something wrong with my backbone which caused some difficulty in walking. I continued to study and declare the truth and this disappeared in about a week's time, except that my back ached a little after sitting for a long time. I did not miss any time at all from work. A week or so later, while on my vocation, I fell backwards into our cabin. I again declared the truth, and seemed to feel no ill effects except that my back bothered me a little almost all the time when sitting. Before going to sleep one night, a short time later, I was able to realize so clearly that I was perfect as God's reflection and that this condition was no part of perfection, that when I woke up in the morning I was perfectly healed. That was over six years ago. I was also healed of concussion of the brain, which had been caused by striking my head on the bottom of a plunge while diving.
Christian Science is a daily protection when we study faithfully. I was protected while in an automobile which ran into a brick building. I was so conscious of spiritual reality at the time that the accident did not seem real to me at all. I felt only a slight jar when the machine hit, and except for one bruise I was entirely uninjured.
Before becoming interested in Christian Science, I had been subject to continual colds. This condition has been largely overcome and I seldom suffer any discomfort on this account. I have been healed instantaneously when a cold has presented itself. Stomach trouble, which also used to cause me much distress, has been healed, and I can eat any kind of food or food combination without any discomfort. I have many times been healed instantaneously of burns. I have had dental work done without suffering any discomfort at all, which ordinarily would have been very painful. The dentist informed me that he used to think my teeth would not last very long, but that they were in fine condition now. I have also been healed of ulcerations.
I used to be afraid of almost everything, particularly that someone might enter the house at night. I was afraid to stay in the house alone at night or to enter a dark house by myself. I was able to prove, when I awoke one night to find someone in my room, that good is ever present and all-powerful. The intruder left as fast as he could get out, and nothing in the house was disturbed. As I have had to go to places alone at night and often stay at home by myself, it has been a great blesing to me to have my fear replaced by confidence in the allness of God, good.
Christian Science has lifted me out of a very undesirable environment, where evil, gossip, and limitation seemed to surround me, into one that is very desirable in every way. It has helped me to do better work and has supplied me with more of it. It has healed me of eyestrain while working. It has helped me to overcome resentment, a very bad temper, discouragement, self-pity, self-love, self-will, and other disagreeable qualities. It has brought me the only real peace and joy I have ever experienced.
I am grateful to God, to Christ Jesus the Way-shower, and to Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. I am grateful for membership in a branch church and The Mother Church, for the loving help of kind practitioners, for the privilege of helping in church activities and teaching in the Sunday school, and for the Christian Science periodicals.
