"Thou shalt be built up"

The Bible tells us in the book of Job, "If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up." The many testimonies in our Christian Science periodicals are proclaiming week after week how literally true this is. Gratitude must fill our hearts when we think of our own healing and of the many who are being built up through the revelation and application of the spiritual law of Truth as given in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. What a mighty cause for rejoicing! Our Leader says in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 169), "The uplifting of spirit was the upbuilding of the body." So when we learn to lift thought from matter to Spirit the building commences; and when we understand God to be the only Life, the upbuilding is assured and certain.

When so-called mortal mind laws and beliefs are revealed as false and are cast out by the truth, and our seeming bondage is thus broken, we rise to a higher vision of purity and perfection, to a clearer understanding of God as omnipotence and omnipresence. Thus we learn to rest secure in the presence of infinite Love; fear loses its control over us when it is seen as the impostor it is. With the realization of what real freedom is we are indeed uplifted to glorify God, and our body responds in a greater harmony. What an awakening when we realize that health is spiritual reflection!

We find in Christian Science that it is not enough to see God, Truth, intellectually; we must reflect the truth and live it in order to grow in understanding. As we reflect more of the Christ-spirit in our daily life through kindness, unselfishness, charity, and purity, we are building that which will last through eternity. We then can better understand our Leader's saying in Science and Health (p. 138), "The supremacy of Spirit was the foundation on which Jesus built," for we have begun to realize that no other foundation will endure. To build up in consciousness a true sense of the substance of Spirit, to prove that Life, Truth, and Love are substantial and indestructible is, indeed, real building.
