[Written for the Sentinel]

Thanksgiving Days

With grateful hearts we gather, Lord,
On these thanksgiving days,
And for the blessings of the year
Our praise to Thee we raise.

Oh, help us to remember, Lord,
That words cannot express
The gratitude that is enough—
But deeds that others bless.

Our words of thanks Thou welcomest.
Oh, help us to recall
That Love in love reflected is
The praise that 's best of all.

The tender word, the love that flows
From hearts that glow for Thee,
Is far more pleasing to Thy ear
Than praise from bended knee.

The praise that Thou dost welcome most,
Thanksgiving true to Thee,
Is love that in our fellow-man
Naught but the real will see.

As to our homes we journey on,
And through the year, we pray
That Thou, O Lord, will strengthen us
To praise Thee in Thy way.
