For a long time I have delayed offering a written testimony...
For a long time I have delayed offering a written testimony of my gratitude for Christian Science because it has seemed difficult to select from a vast number the proper experiences for a brief statement.
Although professing a belief in Christian Science all my life, I took no active interest in it, either in the study of its teachings or in regular church attendance, from the age of twelve years, when I was separated from the Sunday school, until I was twenty-five years of age. At this time, being stricken with a serious illness, I sought the aid of a Christian Science practitioner. During a period of nearly five months, in which I endeavored to regain my health, I devoted my entire time to the study of the authorized Christian Science literature. And when at last the physical healing was accomplished, I found myself elevated to a new sphere of existence. I was completely healed of the tobacco and drink habits and of other disagreeable traits of character. I had gained a great love for the Bible and for the Cause of Christian Science. My greatest desire was, and is, to be of greater service to this Cause. And I recognize that the way to the accomplishment of this desire is through constant self-improvement. "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven," said Jesus.
I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, with the opportunities for service thus afforded; for possession of Mrs. Eddy's writings; and for the privilege of subscribing for the Christian Science periodicals; also for the hope and encouragement I receive and the way which has been revealed to me through the study of this literature. Although at times the path seems dark and dreary, I know that in striving to follow in the footsteps of the Way-shower and of our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, I shall eventually come into the full light.
