We are filled with deep gratitude for having found the...
We are filled with deep gratitude for having found the way to Christian Science. "Man's extremity is God's opportunity." We were permitted to experience this through our child, who was very ill with scarlet fever, an affection of the nose, pneumonia, nephritis, and tympanitis. As we were obliged to take the child to a hospital and the condition became constantly worse, we requested the physicians to operate, but they did not want to do this, stating that the child was too weak and there was no hope. As death was expected every hour, we notified relatives who, up to this time, knew nothing of the child's illness. They at once requested Christian Science treatment, which was immediately given.
After a week, the doctors and nurses did not know what had happened to the child. They said that either the parents prayed a great deal or some other power was at work. After an additional two weeks, the physicians told us that the child would never hear again, as the organs of hearing had been completely destroyed; also that she would lose her speech. But we held fast to the truth; for God, who was the child's Life, could restore her hearing. After a fortnight the physicians wanted to operate on her. This operation was to be performed on the forehead, as otherwise she would lose one of her eyes. But we did not give our consent. Then the physicians said, "If you do not want to have anything done to the child, then take her home." We were pleased to do this. We took the child home the next day, and she was nothing more than skin and bones. The following day the dear practitioner called at our home. During her presence partial hearing returned suddenly. From day to day the child could hear better; and the eye, over which a large swelling had formed, caused her no pain. The child arose and played as though nothing had happened. After four weeks she was able to go out of doors. Now she is completely healed.
For this proof of divine Love which we have received, we are more grateful than words can express. We also wish to express our gratitude to the dear practitioner. The glory belongs to God.
