Ten years ago, I was left with a home under heavy indebtedness
Ten years ago, I was left with a home under heavy indebtedness. In order to save this place I was compelled to increase this indebtedness several hundreds of dollars. Prior to this I had been interested in Christian Science for several years, but had never put it into practice. But now I went to work more earnestly, studying the Bible together with "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and applying my understanding to solve this problem. As my understanding of God increased, I began to see what man's real home is. The following statement from Science and Health (p. 254) was a constant help: "Pilgrim on earth, thy home is heaven; stranger, thou art the guest of God." Also, the statement on the same page: "When we wait patiently on God and seek Truth righteously, He directs our path." This enabled me to be willing to part with the material structure. I was then able to sell my house for a sum which far exceeded the indebtedness. During this time error often argued that I could not meet my church obligations and subscribe for the Christian Science periodicals. But I am that I believed the promises given to us in the Bible and Science and Health, and that these privileges were always mine to enjoy. I also had the privilege of class instruction during this time.
I desire to speak of a healing of an injury caused by a rusty nail. While I was cutting a box, a rusty nail attached to an eight-inch board went into my wrist with such force that it had to be pulled out. I went to the telephone to call a practitioner, but the thought came to me that I did not need any one to tell me that a rusty nail has no intelligence. As I went on thinking the truth, the thought came very clearly that God had never given anything power to hurt or injure man. There were no bad effects,—no incovenience in any way; and I never even bandaged the arm. I should also like to add that all these years it has been necessary for me to live alone much of the time. Through the understanding gained by studying the ninety-first psalm, in the light of Christian Science, I have realized that my protection is in God.
I want to express my gratitude for the dear friends who have helped me along the way. I am very grateful for our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, who was so pure and spiritual that she could bring this great truth to us in such a way that all may understand it.
