Kindly permit me to say that it was entirely the deep study of the Word of God that led to the instantaneous healing of Mrs. Eddy of a supposedly fatal accident, and to her discovery of Christian Science, which she has given to the world in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and other writings. Christian Science is exactly what its name implies; and it is defined by Mrs. Eddy as "the law of God, the law of good, interpreting and demonstrating the divine Principle and rule of universal harmony" (Rudimental Divine Science, p. 1). Christian Science reveals in the Scriptures that which is infallibly true and demonstrable in the affairs of men. Christian Scientists can point to many cases of sickness healed, as well as sinful habits overcome, through an understanding of spiritual Truth, thus placing the teachings of Christ Jesus on a plane of the highest practical use to mankind,—where it should be. They do not on this account attack the religion of others, nor attempt to separate those satisfied with their church connections. The right to abide by one's own religious convictions is one that cannot be questioned; and it must be said on behalf of a vast multitude of people that they have become adherents of Christian Science because of the many benefits they have received. No one who really understands Christian Science has a desire to antagonize it.
